***Be very, very quiet during class today since we have a lot of people recording.
1. Bellwork: Import one sound effect from the Shared drive- it doesn't matter which. Copy and paste it three more times. Show Miss Anderson.
2. You should finish writing scripts for your radio commercials today, if you haven't already. Your script should be written in Google docs and shared with me. The length of the script should be around four hundred words (350-400 words). To check the length, go to Tools -- Word Count. Remember, to write a script you have to label each line with the speaker's name. You should have a space between each person's lines.
3. Once you are done writing the script, look for background music for your commercial on Soundzabound. You may also want to browse the sound effects on the shared drive.
4. We'll record the narration for your commercials today and tomorrow. The finished commercial is due by the end of class on Friday.

3. Your radio commercial should advertise your fake company. You can have many different parts, or just one person talking. It's up to you. Try to think of commercials you've heard on the radio recently as inspiration. You can model yours after the Mills photo house commercial if you wish.
4. Remember, to write a script you have to label each line with the speaker's name. You should have a space between each person's lines.
5. Once you are done, look for music and/or sound effects for your commercial on Soundzabound.
May 7, 2012- Monday
**Miss Anderson will pass out your company webpage gradeslips today, if she hasn't already.
1. Bellwork: Open this piece of music in Audacity, and decrease the volume by half using the envelope tool. Show Miss Anderson when you are done.
2. We should finish the Mills photo house commercial today. Here is an example of a finished radio commercial. Miss Anderson will show you her example project and walk you through the requirements.
STEP 1: Split the audio
Find the place where each sound effect fits in your script. At that point,
split the recorded audio (CRTL +I) to create a space for the sound effect.
Use the time shift tool (sideways arrows) to move the audio down a tiny
bit so those spots are easy to see.
STEP 2: Import 3 sound effects
The sound effects are located here: Shared:/ Graphics / Sounds/
Audacity projects / Radio commerical/ sound effects. Import the
sound effects for a phone dialing, cash register cha-ching, and a record
scratch. Place them according
to the directions in the script.
STEP 3: Add echo
Add an echo effect to the "conscience voice." You'll need to
use your selector tool to select only the parts where the "conscience"
is speaking.
STEP 4: Background music
The music is located here: Shared:/ Graphics / Sounds/ Audacity
projects / Radio commerical/ Christmas music. Import the Christmas
music and lower the volume using the envelope tool. You should barely
hear it in the background. We'll need to leave a few seconds at the beginning
and end that fade in and out.
Optional
Change the pitch of the "YOU" voice by no more than 20%.
3. All done? Be sure to complete the self check. When finished, you should export the file and turn it in. Once your work is turned in, you can read, work on schoolwork, work in Flash, or do extra credit. You may not play games.
Extra credit: Create a custom cursor in Flash following these directions.
May 4, 2012- Friday
**Miss Anderson will pass out your company webpage gradeslips today.
1. Bellwork: Open this sound clip from Austin Powers in Audacity (same one as yesterday). Add an echo effect to the whole clip. You can select the whole clip easily by using your keyboard shortcut CTRL + A. Play it for Miss Anderson to be checked off.
2. Now that you've all recorded your scripts (right?) we'll edit and add sound effects to the commercial today.
Here is an example of a finished radio commercial.
STEP 1: Split the audio
Find the place where each sound effect fits in your script. At that point,
split the recorded audio (CRTL +I) to create a space for the sound effect.
Use the time shirt tool (sideways arrows) to move the audio down a tiny

2. Your next project for Audacity will be to create a radio commercial following this script. There are parts for more than one voice, so you can have your classmates read the other parts, or you can read them all yourself. Hopefully, you have the recording finished. We'll edit and add sound effects today.
Here is an example of a finished radio commercial.
STEP 1: Record Your Narration
Follow the script. You can adlib, but you must use everything from the
script. You will be graded on the clarity and how convincing your voice
is. ACT, ACT, ACT!
STEP 2: Background music

projects / Radio commerical/ Christmas music. Import the Christmas
music and lower the volume using the envelope tool. You should barely

Here is an example of a finished radio commercial.
May 1, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
--Create an Audacity project file, import 3 audio segments, add effects,
and export them
1. Bellwork: Download this sound clip into your audacity folder and open it in Audacity. It's a recording of me saying all the numbers between 1 and 10 out of order. Use your selector tool to cut and paste the numbers in order. Play the finished audio for Miss Anderson to be checked off.
2. Today, we are going to use Audacity to do a simple recording. Open Audacity, and use a microphone to record the following:
| Good evening, and now time for a news update. Earlier today, a truck carrying 500 gallons of Rocky Road ice cream overturned, spilling the gooey deliciousness all over Spanish Fork Main Street. A group of local children bravely volunteered to contain the spill using only spoons. Police warned onlookers of the dangers of getting too close, emphasizing that they would get ice cream all over their clothes and probably spoil their dinner. An eyewitness had this to say, “At first I was like, dude . . . then I was like, DUDE.” More at eleven. |
Save the recording as "news" in your Audacity folder. You'll need to share microphones between partners.
3. Miss Anderson will walk you through the rest of the project from there, or you can follow these instructions.
4. When finished, export the file to your Audacity folder and turn it in.
April 30, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
--Create an Audacity project file, import 3 audio segments, add effects,
and export them
1. Bellwork: Download the following sound clips into your audacity folder and show Miss Anderson. Right click on the links below and select "save link as" or "save target as" and select your Audacity folder.
2. Today, we are going to use Audacity to combine those three sound clips into one. You can view the tutorial to get ahead, or follow along with Miss Anderson. First, import the jungle theme. Then, add the rain forest sounds and repeat them. Soften the rain forest sounds. Add a fade out to the end of the jungle theme, and import the African camp segment and move it to the end.
3. When finished, export this as jungle and turn in the exported file. Once the mp3 is turned in, you can do what you choose.
April 27, 2012- Friday
Our goal is to:
--Learn the tools in Audacity
1. Bellwork: Let's make really, really sure you can find your company webpage in the list of company webpages. Show Miss Anderson your webpage.
2. Make a folder called Audacity. You'll put all your Audacity files in this folder.
3. We are going to practice using the tools in Audacity. Download the following audio clips:
Haha! You fool! from The Princess Bride
The easiest way to download them is to right-click on the links and select "Save link as" or "Save target as."
4. We'll start by reviewing the Audacity toolbar. We'll try each of the tools in turn.
5. You don't need to turn in this file, but you should work in Audacity during the entire class period.
April 26, 2012- Thursday
Our goal is to:

1. Bellwork: Show Miss Anderson that your company webpage has been uploaded to the server. Here are the server settings you'll need if you have to upload it again. It's important to remember that you are uploading the entire folder for your company page, not just one file.
You may run into problems if:
----Your files are not stored in the company webpage folder (this means
picture files, too)
----You have renamed your index file (it MUST be called index)
----You don't have a company webpage folder (you'll need to make one and
move the files into it)
2. We are going to swtich gears and learn about a new program: Audacity. Audacity is an audio editor, so we'll need to have some audio to work with. Here are two audio tracks you can play around with: a recording of Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll and Welcome to the Jungle. The easiest way to download them is to right-click on the links and select "Save link as" or "Save target as."
3. We'll start by reviewing the Audacity toolbar. We'll try each of the tools in turn.

Compare what you see to the self check and your progress report. What needs to be fixed or improved? If you need to upload your page to the server again, here are the instructions.
2. Open layout 2 and let's finish it.
------Add a tiled background. Then, we'll change the colors of the table to corresponding colors.
------For layout 2, you'll create the banner yourself in Fireworks. Create a canvas that is 800 pixels wide by 100 pixels high. Copy and paste the background image onto the canvas. Use the dropper tool in the canvas color box to choose a canvas color from the background image. Type the word "banner" using 96-point, yellow font. Export the banner to your webpages folder and add it to the top row.
------Set the table background color to be #FFFFCC.
------Add the links from the example page. Copy and paste the links into the second row. Link each word to this home page.
------ Copy and paste the text from the example page. Insert the picture from this link.
------Copy and paste the footer information and change the bottom row background color to #465e5e
------Change the text color in the bottom row to #FFFFCC.
3. Once we're done with layout 2, we'll start on layout 3.
------We'll create the background image that will tile across the page. Create a canvas in Fireworks that is 20 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. Set the canvas color to white. Create a 20 x 200 black rectangle and align it flush with the x and y axis.

Sites for local businesses:
3. In Fireworks, you should come up with a basic layout for a webpage, incorporating the elements we have brainstormed as a class.
----Create a 1200 x 1000 canvas
----Use your rectangle and text tools to create and label page elements.
4. Once you are done with your page layout (it should have all the elements listed on the board), export it and turn it in.

2. Open your webpages folder. Change the name of your webpage to classperiodinitials_booktitle. For example, if your name is Robin Hood and you are in first period and you read Hatchet, you file name should be 1rh_hatchet
2. We'll upload the page to the server today. We'll do a class check to make sure you have everything first.
---heading
---paragraphs
---picture
---link
---title
3. Once your page is uploaded, find it on the www.compapp.org/books page. Submit the link to Miss Anderson using this survey. You can view the results here.

Our goal is to:
--Add link, heading, title, and picture to book review webpage
--Alter CSS for book review webpage
1. Bellwork: Download this webpage and open it in Dreamweaver. Add this picture to the webpage. Show Miss Anderson the webpage in a browser window to be checked off.
2. We should finish adding all the page elements today. Here are instructions on how to do so.
---Add the words
---Add the picture
---Add the link
---Add the title
3. If you've already completed that part, I would recommend following these instructions on adding extra CSS styles to your document.
---Choose a new color scheme
---Change colors for body background
---Change colors for table background and border
---Add styles for links

Our goals are to:
--Create an animation with shape and motion tweens in Flash
1. Bellwork: Finish the pencil animation from yesterday.
Here are the instructions: http://www.compapp.org/docs/flash_penciltest.pdf.
Here is a video tutorial: http://www.compapp.org/videos/pencil_animation/pencil_animation.html
Here is an example of how it's supposed to look: this animation of a drawing pencil.
Miss Anderson will check your turned in file.
2. We're ready to move on with your book review webpages. Miss Anderson will walk the remainder of the class through the initial instructions, which you should have open as a reference.
3. If you've already completed that part, I would recommend following these instructions on adding extra CSS styles to your document.
Looking for colors? Try Color Scheme Designer
March 28, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
--Create an animation with shape and motion tweens in Flash
1. Bellwork: Create a new Flash document. Make two layers. Label one "shape" and the other layer "motion." In the shape layer, create a shape tween where a circle changes to a square over 20 keyframes. In the motion layer, make a small square move across the screen over twenty keyframes. Have Miss Anderson check it.
2. Practice: Create a new Flash document. Make two layers. Label one "heart" and the other layer "arrow." In the shape layer, we'll create a shape tween where a the heart gets bigger, then smaller. In the motion layer, we'll make a small arrow move across the screen. Have Miss Anderson check it.
3. After we've reviewed how to do both types of tweens, you are going to be tested on how well you can make shape and motion tweens. You are going to re-create this animation of a drawing pencil. The colors of the pencil and line are completely up to you. The final line should extend almost the full length of the screen, though. My example has a stop action added, but yours does not need one. (You can add it if you like, though).
Here are the instructions: http://www.compapp.org/docs/flash_penciltest.pdf.
Here is a video tutorial: http://www.compapp.org/videos/pencil_animation/pencil_animation.html
EXTRA CREDIT OPTION: Make the pencil draw the line, then turn around and erase the line.
4. Remember, to make a motion tween you need a symbol, to make a shape tween you don't.
5. When you are finished with the animation, export the movie file and call it "pencil turn in." Turn in the movie file.
6. When you are all done with your assignments, you can choose what you do.
March 27, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
--Create shape tweens in Flash
1. Bellwork: Download this document. There are four mistakes you'll need to edit.
---The book title needs to be capitalized
---The book title needs to be underlined or italicized
---A name needs to be capitalized
---The word "I" needs to be capitalized
Take a couple of minutes after finishing your bellwork to check for those mistakes in your book review.
2. Miss Anderson will show you how to create shape tweens in Flash. They're easy, but you have to remember that they are different from motion tweens. For a shape tween to work, you CANNOT have converted the object to a symbol. Miss Anderson will even show you how to break down symbols (like letters) into shapes that can be tweened.
3. Work today on creating a multitude of shape tweens. Keep working until the bell. Make sure in all your shape tweens, you try converting words to a shape at least once.

Our goals are to:
--use basic HTML tags to create a practice web page in Dreamweaver
1. Bellwork: Open your wow.html document in Dreamweaver and a browser window. Show Miss Anderson that the page is open in both places. Keep the file open in both!
2. Today we are practicing adding HTML tags in Dreamweaver. We are all going to make the same page about The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein. This page will be turned in and graded on whether or not you followed instructions. Just learn where everything is and where the tags belong: head or body.
3. First, we're going to add some words to the body. Copy and paste the following paragraphs after the <body> tag:
I love to use my imagination when I'm reading. This book, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings series, has been read and loved by millions of imaginative people. When I'm reading this book, I get to visualize what it would be like to battle a dragon, meet wood-elves, and nearly end up as a troll's dinner. The Hobbit creates a whole new world, Middle Earth, full of dwarves, elves, hobbits, and adventures. Tolkein describes this world in a way that is easy to picture:
"The sun was shining brilliantly, and it was a long while before he could bear it. When he could, he saw all round him a sea of dark green, ruffled here and there by the breeze; and there were everywhere hundreds of butterflies."
The main character of this book is Bilbo Baggins, an unlikely hero. Here is how Tolkein describes him:
"This hobbit was a very well-to-do hobbit, and his name was Baggins. The Bagginses had lived in the neighbourhood of The Hill for time out of mind, and people considered them very respectable, not only because most of them were rich, but also because they never had any adventures or did anything unexpected: you could tell what a Baggins would say on any question without the bother of asking him. This is the story of how a Baggins had an adventure, and found himself doing and saying things altogether unexpected. He may have lost the neighbours' respect, but he gained--well, you will see whether he gained anything in the end."
You can learn more about the book from the Tolkein library.

Our goals are to:
--use basic HTML tags to create a web page in Dreamweaver
1. Bellwork: Create a new canvas in Fireworks, 200 pixels high by 800 pixels wide. Set the canvas color to be green.
2. Create a new folder in your Computer Applications folder, and call it "webpages." Open this set of basic HTML tags and read over them. Save a copy to your webpages folder, and open it from there.
3. Miss Anderson will teach you about the basics of HTML today. HTML is the super-secret language people use to create web pages. Just kidding, it's not super-secret. In fact, it's pretty simple. You just have to get the knack of putting all your instructions inside these little things: < > .
4. We'll go over the 5 starter tags and you'll make a very simple web page! We'll make the webpages in Dreamweaver, and use them to practice with. Make sure you save your practice web page.

March 15, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
--Create a fake photo
--Master the use of the fade tool
1. Bellwork: Create this faded image in Fireworks. Here are the steps:
--- Download this picture of the Grand Canyon
--- Create a 500 x500 canvas.
--- Import the picture of the Grand Canyon onto the canvas.
--- Add a top-to-bottom fade to the picture, as shown here.
--- Have Miss Anderson check you off
2. If you haven't finished your fake photo, make sure that you do so. All done? Complete the self check and turn in it in. Turn in your exported file to the shared drive.
3. We are going to learn some new Fireworks tools: the canvas tools and the fade tool. You are going to design a horror movie poster. Here's some instructions on how to get started.
---We are going to create a black canvas: 800 w x 1100 h
---We'll add a picture of a scary-looking haunted house
---We will import a picture of you and fade it left-right
---Add a scary title
---Add borders and effects as desired
March 14, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
--Create a fake photo
--Master the use of the brightness/contrast tools
1. Bellwork: Bellwork: Download this picture of a bulldog with a bouffant and open it in Fireworks. Use the magic wand to select only the hot pink hair (not the glasses or the rest of the dog). Cut the hair out and paste it into a separate layer. You may not get every little bit of the wig, and that's okay. You may need to cut the wig out in two separate sections, and that's okay. Your tolerance should be somewhere between 30 and 50. Use the adjust color menu to turn the hair purple. Have Miss Anderson check you off.
2. Today, we'll review all the tools you'll need to create your fake photo. Miss Anderson will create an example fake photo to review all these tools.
* lasso, magic wand
* effects menu- especially adjust color, brightness/contrast
* rubber stamp, blur, smudge
* brush, transparency
3. Work on your fake photos, and we can take more pictures if needed. If you are done today, then you probably didn't work carefully enough. Remember to work carefully and do not rush. You'll have to do a lot of zoomed-in work with your various tools to make the photo look as seamless as possible.
The grade for the fake photos will depend on the following:
1 pt- the size and placement of the head match
3 pts- the colors blend well- the skin tones, brightness, contrast, colors,
etc match
3 pts- the edges are blended well- you can't tell where they are
1 pt- exported file (jpg or gif) is turned in, not project file (png)
8 pts total
The base image folder is here: Shared / Students / Anderson / Fake photos. You must use the photos in this folder, and cannot search for your own. You can request Miss Anderson search for a photo and add it to the folder.
4. All done? Complete the self check and turn in it in. Turn in your exported file to the shared drive.
If you are done, you are going to design a poster. It can be a wanted poster, a poster for a band, a book poster, a movie poster, a motivational poster- it's up to you. Here's some instructions on how to get started.
March 13, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
--Create a fake photo
--Master the use of the brightness/contrast tools
1. Bellwork: Download this partly-completed fake photo of Blake Griffin's face on Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Use the brightness/contrast menu to finish matching the two photos. Increase the contrast to somewhere between 30 and 40. Increase the brightness to somewhere around 10. Use your smudge tool to smudge the edges. Show Miss Anderson.
2. Today, we'll review all the tools you'll need to create your fake photo. Miss Anderson will create an example fake photo to review all these tools.

1. Bellwork: Miss Anderson will pass out papers that list your scores for this month's assignments, and suggestions for improving those scores. Remember, the lab is open before school, after school, and during E-time.
2. Today, we'll review all the tools you'll need to create your fake photo. Miss Anderson will create an example fake photo to review all these tools.
* lasso, magic wand
* effects menu- especially adjust color, brightness/contrast
* rubber stamp, blur, smudge
* brush, transparency
3. Work on your fake photos, and we can take more pictures if needed. If you are done today, then you probably didn't work carefully enough. Remember to work carefully and do not rush. You'll have to do a lot of zoomed-in work with your various tools to make the photo look as seamless as possible.
The grade for the fake photos will depend on two things:
4 pts- the images blend well- the brightness, contrast, colors, etc match
3 pts- the edges are well-blended, you can't tell where they are
1 pt- the exported file was turned in, not the project file
8 pts total

March 8, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
--Finish the Statue of Liberty photo
--Master the use of the smudge and paint brush tools
1. Bellwork: Download this .png file of a landscape with a tree. Your assignment is to remove the tree, making it look like the tree was never there. Use your rubber stamp tool to do this. Have Miss Anderson check your work when you're done.
2. Then, Miss Anderson will review how to tell the difference between an exported file and a saved project.
3. Today we'll finish your statue of liberty photos. We'll practice using the smudge, blur, and rubber stamp tools to blend. Download the base picture here again if you need to.
----First use your eraser, lasso, or magic wand tool to cut out a space for your face. Layer your face behind.
----Change the color of your face to match
----Blend the edges with your smudge and blur tool. Use the rubber stamp tool to fill in any gaps.
----If you have extra time, practice using your paint brush tool to recreate the shadows on the face.
If done properly, the end result can be pretty convicing. You can see how I applied the shadows by opening my project file and hiding the face layer.
4. These will not be turned in, they are just practice. You will need to get yours checked by Miss Anderson in order to be finished. Once Miss Anderson has checked you off, you can do what you choose.
March 7, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
--Review how to use the magic wand tool
--Create alien face photos
1. Bellwork: Complete and turn in the self check for your alien face photos.
2. Today we'll practice using the smudge, blur, and rubber stamp tools to blend. To practice, we're going to make some funny face photos. We're going to put your face onto the statue of liberty, and try to blend it in. Download the base picture here.

1. Bellwork: Bellwork: Download this picture and open it in Fireworks. Use the marquee tool to select exactly half of the face. Cut out the half, copy it, paste it, and flip it. Put the two halves together. Show Miss Anderson.
2. Today we're going to learn to use the distort and marquee tools in Fireworks. We're going to finish the incredibly awesome alien face photos!
Watch the whole demonstration, start to finish, with this video tutorial.
To create the alien face photo, follow these steps:
1. Open your face photo in Fireworks. Try to get one where you are directly facing the camera.
2. Use the marquee tool to cut out half your face. (video)
3. Double that half and delete the rest of the photo. (video)
4. Right click on one half and go to Transform -- Flip Horizontal, then match the two halves. (video)
5. Group the two halves together.(video)
6. Now it's up to you how you alter the photo to make yourself look like a strange and wonderful alien. Change the color, use the rubber stamp tool, use the skew tool- pick a couple of things to change in your face to make it look more alien. (video for skew/distort)
7. Trim the extra canvas (video)
8. When finished, export and turn in. Make another if you have time. When finished with two, you can choose what you do.
The grade for the alien face photo is
1 pt- the two halves align exactly
2pts- facial features are skewed or distorted
1 pt- elements have changed color
2 pts- extra canvas has been trimmed
6 pts total
March 5, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
--Review how to use the magic wand tool
--Create alien face photos
1. Bellwork: Download this picture and open it in Fireworks. Use the magic wand to select only the boy's t-shirt. Cut the t-shirt out and paste it into a separate layer. Your tolerance should be somewhere around 100. Use the adjust color menu to turn the t-shirt green. Export the picture as "magic wand quiz" and turn it in.

Mar 2, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
--Learn how to alter saturation and hue
--Take pictures for fake photo.
1. Bellwork: Bellwork: Let's test your coloring skills. Download this .png file and open it in Fireworks. Your assignment is to make Bob Hope's face match the color of the background in each square. Match the colors as closely as possible. Have Miss Anderson check your work when you're done.
2. We need to get pictures of everyone for some photo projects we'll do later. Miss Anderson will take 5-6 shots of each of you. While Miss Anderson is taking pictures, you can choose what you do. I recommend checking SIS and seeing if you are missing any assignments.
3. When Miss Anderson is finished taking pictures, she'll upload all of them to this folder:
Shared / Students / Anderson / photos
4. Copy your photos to your Fireworks folder. Miss Anderson will check that you have them, because the photos are about to get removed from the shared drive!
5. Open one of your photos in Fireworks and practice the tools that you know so far.
Mar 1, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
--Learn how to alter saturation and hue
--Create 2 black, white, and color photos.
1. Bellwork: Download this picture of a cowboy and open it in Fireworks. Use your lasso tool to copy and paste 4 more cowboys on your screen. Show Miss Anderson when you are done.
2. We'll finish your black, white, and color photos today. We'll use the pictures in the shared drive graphics folder, so look in that folder and choose a photo to work with. To make one part black and white, and one part color, you'll need to
---Copy the photo so you have two. They should be lined up with each other exactly.
---Use the effects - adjust color menu to alter the saturation to make one part of the photo black and white, and the other part color.
---Use your eraser tool to erase part of the top photo, so the black and white photo on the bottom shows through. Zoom in to work carefully.
3. Requirements: The edges around the cut section must be precise- nearly perfect, in fact- in order to achieve the desired effect.
4. If you are done with one, make another. Export both photos and turn them in.
5. Once you are done with black, white and color photos we'll make recolored photos. We'll use the pictures in the shared drive graphics folder, so look in that folder and choose a photo to work with. You are going to recolor one part of that photo. Don't plan on recoloring something that is black or white, because there's no color there to work with.
Watch the video tutorial for the recolored photo here.
---Use your lasso or magic wand tool to select one element from the photo.
---Use the effects - adjust color menu to alter the hue and saturation to make that part of the photo a different color.
Requirements: The edges around the cut section must be precise- nearly perfect, in fact- in order to achieve the desired effect.
5. If you are done with one, make another. Export both photos and turn them in.
Feb 29, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
--Learn how to alter saturation and hue
--Create 2 black, white, and color photos.
1. Bellwork: Download this picture of a penguin and open it in Fireworks. Use your lasso tool to copy and paste 4 more penguins on your screen. Show Miss Anderson when you are done.
2. We'll make black, white, and color photos today. We'll use the pictures in the shared drive graphics folder, so look in that folder and choose a photo to work with. To make one part black and white, and one part color, you'll need to

3. Requirements: The edges around the cut section must be precise- nearly perfect, in fact- in order to achieve the desired effect.
4. If you are done with one, make another. Choose one of these photos to export. Export the chosen photo and turn it in. If your work is done and turned in, you can choose what you do.
Feb 28, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
* Learn the basic tools of Fireworks
* Create a fake photo of a shark attacking a helicopter
1. Bellwork: Save this photo of a balloon and open it in Fireworks. Use your lasso tool to copy and paste three more of the balloons onto the screen. Show Miss Anderson when you are done.
2. Then we'll finish up the helicopter/shark photo. First, we'll finish eliminating the background from around the shark using the eraser tool. Second, we'll use the rubber stamp tool to add some extra foam and water around the shark. Third, we'll adjust the color and brightness of the shark to match the rest of the photo.
3. Once you are done with the shark photo, you should export the photo and turn in the exported file. Once you have turned in the exported file, you can do what you choose.
Download the photos again if needed
* shark
* helicopter
Here are some step by step instructions to help you: http://www.compapp.org/docs/fireworks/sharkphoto_directions.pdf
Feb 27, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
* Learn the basic tools of Fireworks
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to use your search terms? How many search results would you get if you were looking for a xls file about Benedict Arnold? Show Miss Anderson your search terms and results.
2. Today you are going to be tested on how well you can distinguish between fake photos and real photos. Miss Anderson will show you a series of photos, and you will need to tell her if each photo is FAKE or LEGIT.
3. Then you create a fake photo yourself. Miss Anderson will introduce you to the software we will be using: Fireworks. Before you begin the fake photo project, you will need two pictures:
* shark
* helicopter
Here are some step by step instructions to help you: http://www.compapp.org/docs/fireworks/sharkphoto_directions.pdf
Feb 24, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use the special search features of Google
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to use the advanced search terms? Compose a search string to find information about whale sharks and their food. You'll need to search for whale sharks as one term, so use certain punctuation marks to group the words together. Searching for information about their food may mean searching for words like food chain or prey as well, so use a symbol to search for the word food plus all the related terms. Show Miss Anderson your search string and your number of search results to get checked off.
2. We'll review the search terms by conducting some practice searches as a class. We'll especially focus on filetype and inurl searches. Use your orange handout to help you.
---Flash movies about whale sharks (you'll want to look at the first two search results- very cool!)
---Pages about whale sharks from military websites
---Pages about whale sharks, but require maps to be returned with them
---Pages about whale sharks from NASA
---Pages about whale sharks and the Yucatan Peninsula
3. After that, you'll try some searches on your own. Miss Anderson has a handout with search requirements. You'll need to come up with a search string to meet those requirements. Record the number of search results. Turn the paper in when finished. After that, you can do what you choose.
Feb 23, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use the special search features of Google
1. Bellwork: We are going to learn some advanced Google search skills today. Download and open this handy list of 12 tips to search Google like a pro. Make sure its saved to your student files. Read over it with a partner. Be ready to answer the following questions:
---How do you tell Google to search for a phrase instead of a single word?
---How do you exclude a certain word from all search results?
---How do you tell Google to look for your search terms, plus all similar
search terms?
---How do you tell Google to look for only .org or .edu websites?
---How do you tell Google to look for only specific types of files (like
Flash movie files)?
2. Once you know the answers to these questions, complete the search terms quiz. You can use your 12 tips guide or Googleology handout to help you.
3. Know that you've at least reviewed the concepts, we'll see how good your search skills really are. We are going to conduct some practice searches as a class. You can judge whether you did the search correctly by looking at the number of search results that get returned. The goal is to get a number of search results similar to the number that Miss Anderson gets.
Feb 22, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use school Google accounts
* Share a Google doc and work collaboratively
1. Bellwork: Open your Google docs. A presentation called "Computer Applications" has been shared with you. Create a new slide for this presentation. Type your name on the slide. Once you have, I'll be able to see it and I'll check you off.
2. We are going to practice using Google docs today. Specifically, we're going to practice using the sharing feature to write collaboratively. You are going to work with a partner today. Conveniently, you don't have to switch seats when using Google docs because you can chat online.
3. Your task is this: Create a How-To presentation using Google presentations. The how-to instructions should be broken up in 8 steps. The topic can be anything from how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to how to be awesome to how to pilot a spaceship to the moon. Each of you will need to make half of the slides.
---One of you needs to open a presentation and share it with the other
and with Miss Anderson
---Make 9 slides right off the bat, and sort out who will work on each
slide
---Use the first slide as a title slide
---Write one step on each of the other slides
---Once you are done with the writing, try changing the design and adding
pictures.
You will be graded on
___/2 completion (all eight slides are finished)
___/2 fairness (did you do half the work?)
___/2 use of the Google docs chat feature (helpful, positive comments)
Feb 21, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use school Google accounts
* Share a Google doc and work collaboratively
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to share a document with Miss Anderson in Google docs? Open your uploaded PowerPoint and make sure it is shared with Miss Anderson.
2. We are going to practice using Google docs today. Specifically, we're going to practice using the sharing feature to write collaboratively. You are going to make stick stories!
----Everyone sitting on the far left of the room start a document. Title
it "stick story."
----Each person on the row needs to walk to the far left computer, and
share the stick story with their own email address so they can add to
it.
----Once each person in the row has access to the document, you are going
to each write a bit of the story: 1-2 sentences. Once you are done with
your bit, drop down a line and write the words "and then." That
will be the cue for the next person to start writing.
___/1 sharing the document
___/2 contributing to the story (school-appropriate)
___/1 let everyone else type without interference: don't delete their
words or mess around with their text, etc
___/1 maintain a positive tone (refrain from negative comments, etc)
3. Make sure the story is shared with Miss Anderson so we can read them all at the end of class!
Feb 17, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use school Google accounts
1. Bellwork: Do you have all your files organized? Open three windows: 1) your my documents window with all your student files and folders 2) your Computer Applications folder and 3) your Flash folder. Make sure all your files for this class are in your Computer Applications folder. Make sure all your Flash files are in your Flash folder. Miss Anderson will check that everything's in the right place.
2. Let's make sure everyone can log in to their school Google accounts. The username and password is the same one you use for SIS. Miss Anderson can look it up for you. Once there, we'll practice 3 tasks
---send an email (to Miss Anderson)
---send an email attachment to yourself (a flash animation)
---upload a document (your Google Earth slideshow)
---share a document (your Google Earth slideshow- share with Miss Anderson)
Feb 16, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use the cut and paste keyboard shortcuts
* Log on to school Google accounts
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to cut and paste? Open this Flash project with a red square, yellow swirl, and blue circle. Cut and paste the objects into the correct layer. Hide all but one layer at a time to check that the objects ended up in the right place. Show Miss Anderson one layer at a time.
2. Once you are done, finish your Google Earth slideshow. In the end, you should have 8 slides: 1 title and 7 places. One each slide with a picture, make sure you say the name of the place. Once you are done, turn in your PowerPoint.
Feb 15, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use the cut and paste keyboard shortcuts
* Use the print screen tool to create screen captures
1. Bellwork: Do you remember your keyboard shortcuts? If not, check the yellow posters on the wall. For bellwork, show that you have master two of the most important: Ctrl + X for cutting, and Ctrl + V for pasting. Open the Great Moments in Communication timeline. Using only your keyboard, not your mouse, cut and paste everything into the right order. Show Miss Anderson when you are done.
2. Once you are done, you are going to use Google Earth plus your print screen keyboard shortcut to create a PowerPoint. Let's pretend you are planning the ultimate around-the-world trip. Where are seven places you stop? You can choose locations across the country or across the whole world.
3. Open Google Earth and MS PowerPoint. Come up with a title for your World Tour and put it on the title slide.
4. When you find a site you wish to include in your world tour, change the elevation to 10,000 feet and hit the Print Screen button in the top right corner of your keyboard. Your computer will copy what's on your screen.
5. Switch to MS PowerPoint and paste the screen capture onto a slide. In the title for the slide, name the place.
6. In the end, you should have 8 slides: 1 title and 7 places. Once you are done, turn in your PowerPoint. When your assignment is turned in, you can choose what you do.
Feb 14, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
* Learn how to use the cut and paste keyboard shortcuts
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to make motion tweens? Download this Flash project with a squirrel. Create a motion tween that moves the squirrel across the screen in 7 keyframes.
Remember, the three things you need for a motion tween to work:
---Convert the object to a symbol
---Set the starting point and ending point
---Add a "motion tween"
2. Look over the keyboard shortcuts handout. See if you can close your internet window and then open it again and go to www.compapp.org using only your keyboard, with no help from your mouse.
3. We'll practice these keyboard shortcuts as a class with the following exercise:
-
Windows logo button to display the start menu
Use your arrows to select MS Word
ALT + TAB to switch back to the instructions webpage
SHIFT + arrow keys to select the paragraph: IT WAS
the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom,
it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the
epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of
Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we
had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going
direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way- in short, the
period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities
insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative
degree of comparison only.
CTRL + C to copy it
ALT + TAB to switch back to MS Word
CRTL + V to paste
CTRL + S to save the document.
Tab to select your Computer Applications folder. Save it as First name
Last name shortcuts
ALT + F4 to quit MS Word
Windows Logo +E to open the My Computer Window
Tab and enter to select the class Turn In folder
Windows Logo + E to open the My Computer Window
Tab and enter to select your shortcuts document
CTRL + C to copy the document
ALT + TAB to switch windows
CTRL + V to paste the document
CTRL + F4 to close the window
4. When you are pretty comfortable with your keyboard shortcuts, download and save the Great Moments in Communication timeline. Using only your keyboard, not your mouse, cut and paste everything into the right order. Save your finished copy and turn it in to the shared drive.
Feb 13, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
* Create your own animation with an onion skin tracing
Your onion skin animation is due today
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to make motion tweens? Download this Flash project with a rocket. Create a motion tween that moves the rocket across the sky in 6 keyframes.
Remember, the three things you need for a motion tween to work:
---Convert the object to a symbol
---Set the starting point and ending point
---Add a "motion tween"
2. Finish and turn in your onion skin animation if you haven't already. You will need to use the onion skin tool to trace at least one object. You can use motion tweens to move things. Other than that, it's up to you what the animation is about, so put on your thinking caps!
You will be graded on:
___/3 quality of tracing
___/3 quality of motion tweens and movement
___/2 at least 50 frames
___/1 the animation makes sense and is not a jumble of random objects
___/1 turning in the correct file type (the exported movie file)
4. Be sure to export the animation as a movie when you are done. Complete the project self-check and turn in the paper and the movie file. Once your movie file is turned in, design and make another one. We'll work in Flash the entire time today, with no time spent on games.
Feb 10, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
* Create your own animation with an onion skin tracing
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to make motion tweens? Download this Flash project with a sun that you'll need to animate. Create a 20-frame motion tween that moves the sun across the screen.
Remember, the three things you need for a motion tween to work:
---Convert the object to a symbol
---Set the starting point and ending point
---Add a "motion tween"
2. Today is your first animation project that you design completely.
4. We will have today and maybe Monday to work on this depending on how fast you finish. Be sure to export the animation as a movie when you are done. Complete the project self-check and turn in the paper and the movie file. Once your movie file is turned in, you can do what you choose.
Feb 9, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
* Create a motion tween with an onion skin tracing
1. Bellwork: Do you remember how to make motion tweens? Download this 2-layer project with an arrow that you'll need to animate. Create a 10-frame motion tween that moves the arrow from the bow to the target.
Remember, the three things you need for a motion tween to work:
---Convert the object to a symbol
---Set the starting point and ending point
---Add a "motion tween"
2. Today is your first animation project that you design completely. You will need to use the onion skin tool to trace at least one object. You can use motion tweens to move things. Other than that, it's up to you what the animation is about, so put on your thinking caps!
You will be graded on:

___/3 quality of motion tweens and movement
___/2 at least 50 frames
___/1 the animation makes sense and is not a jumble of random objects
___/1 turning in the correct file type (the exported movie file)
4. We will have a couple of days to work on this, and if you've done quality work it's unlikely you finished today. Be sure to export the animation as a movie when you are done. Complete the project self-check and turn in the paper and the movie file. Once your movie file is turned in, you can do what you choose.
Feb 8, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
* Create a motion tween
1. Bellwork: Do you know how to get rid of frames you don't want? Select them, right click on them, and select "remove frames." Show Miss Anderson you know how. Download this Flash project. Remove all frames except the first 10.
2. Today we're going to learn to do something new in Flash: motion tweens. You'll love them. You'll wonder where they've been all your life. They're pretty simple too. We'll start with a simple motion tween project: a bouncing ball. You can follow a video tutorial here: http://maclab.guhsd.net/flash/mx/motion_tween_01.html
3. To get started, draw a circle and fill it in with color. Draw a box around the circle with your black arrow tool to select the whole thing. Right click on the circle and select "convert to symbol." Convert it to a graphic and give it a name like "ball" or "circle." Then, insert a keyframe at frame 10. In keyframe 10, move the ball to the other side of the screen. Go back to keyframe 1. In the properties menu, select "motion tween." Repeat every ten frames until you have 100 frames.
Remember, the three things you need for a motion tween to work:
---Convert the object to a symbol
---Set the starting point and ending point
---Add a "motion tween"
For extra credit, make multiple bouncing balls in multiple layers.
4. Be sure to export the animation as a movie and turn in the movie when you are done. Once your movie file is turned in, you can do what you choose.
Feb 7, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
* Create an "onion skin" animation of a snowboarder.
* Create a separate background layer and animate it.
Snowboarder animation should be finished and turned in today.
1. Bellwork: Download this Flash project to use for your bellwork today. You can discard it once your bellwork has been checked by Miss Anderson. The task is to use the transform tool to tilt the arrow. In the first frame, tilt the arrow so it points toward 1. Then, make a second keyframe and tilt the arrow so it points toward 2. Then, make a third keyframe and tilt the arrow so it points toward 3. Make 10 keyframes in all and in each keyframe, tilt the arrow to point toward the next number. When the animation is played, it should look like a spinning minute hand on a clock. Have Miss Anderson check it when you are done.
2. We're going to finish animating the background if you haven't already. If the background is moving to the left, it looks like the snowboarder is going downhill. Draw a slope in the first frame. You can add trees, rocks, or other features if you wish. Then, make a new keyframe and move the background slope up and to the left a little bit. Continue to make the background move, adding more as needed, until you have about 50 keyframes of moving background. View the video tutorial for animating the background here.
3. Next, we are going to animate the snowboarder going down the mountain. You really only have to move a bit in each frame, and keep him near the center. For extra credit, you can make him do jumps. View the video tutorial for animating the snowboarder here.
4. Once you have 50 frames of snowboarding, you are done. Export the movie file. Complete the self check (found in the blue folders around the room). Turn in the file. After that, you can do what you choose.
Grading requirements:
1 pt- turning in the correct file (movie, not project)
2 pts- animated background makes the snowboarder look as though he is
moving downhill
1 pt- animated snowboarder looks like he is moving downhill
2 pts- the quality of the snowboarder tracing is good, and not sloppy
1 pts- extra credit for making the snowboarder jump

Feb 6, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
* Create an "onion skin" animation of a snowboarder.
* Create a separate background layer and animate it.
1. Bellwork: Open your snowboarder animation. Make sure you have an empty layer called "background." Lock the snowboarder layer. Show Miss Anderson that you have locked the snowboarder layer, and that the other layer is ready for the background.
2. To make the snowboarder animation, we're actually going to spend most of the time on animating the background.
3. Next, we are going to animate the snowboarder going down the mountain. You really only have to move a bit in each frame, and keep him near the center. For extra credit, you can make him do jumps.
4. Once you have 50 frames of snowboarding, you are done. Export the movie file. Complete the self check (found in the blue folders around the room). Turn in the file. After that, you can do what you choose.

Feb 3, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
* Open and save a new Macromedia Flash project (a .fla file)
* Create an "onion skin" animation of a snowboarder.
1. Bellwork: For your bellwork today, let's make sure you haven't forgotten how to do an onion sking drawing! Download this picture to your Flash folder. Then, import it into a new Flash project and use the onion skin tool to trace it. Show Miss Anderson your finished tracing.
2. Now that you've had some practice with the onion skin tool, it's time for a project: the snowboarder animation.
Download this picture of a snowboarder to your Flash folder.
3. We are going to trace this snowboarder, then animate him going down a mountain. We'll make him to jumps, and may even flips. We'll animate the background to make it look like he's moving downhill.
4. So, first of all, let's make two layers: one for the snowboarder, and one for the background. Name the layers accordingly.
5. Lock the background layer- we'll work on it later.
6. Import the picture of the snowboarder into the snowboarder layer and trace it.
7. If you get further than that today, I'll be really amazed at your super-human speed. If by chance you are super-human Flash machine, view the snowboarder instructions belows.

Feb 2, 2012- Thursday, Job Shadow Day
Our goals are to:
* Learn how our school server works
1. Bellwork:none
2. What do you know about how networks and servers work? Miss Anderson will review the basics of our school network and show you this video: The World Wide Web in Plain English.
3. Then, we'll go visit the school server.
1- set up laptops; log in
6- wipe down monitors in lab 7, 26, 25
7- wipe down keyboards and mice in labs 7, 26, 25
4. You can play games or do what you choose when you're done.
Feb 1, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
* Use drawing and onion skin tools to create high-quality drawings in
Flash
1. Bellwork: Let's see how well you remember what we learned yesterday. Open a new Flash file. Import a picture, and create a blank keyframe after the picture. Turn on the onion skin tool. You don't actually have to draw anything for bellwork, just show Miss Anderson that you have set up an onion skin frame.
2. Today we'll continue working on onion skin drawings. By the end of the period, you should have one onion skin drawing in each layer. Feel free to experiment and draw new things on your own. Show Miss Anderson when you are done. Once you have been checked by Miss Anderson, you can do what you choose.
Jan 31, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
* Use layers to create an animation with multiple objects
1. Bellwork: Create a new Flash project with 5 layers. Lock each layer but the top layer. Show Miss Anderson.
2. Today Miss Anderson will show you how to make more realistic objects with your drawing tools. We'll make: a city skyline, a fish, a star and a reindeer. We may make more. These are practice objects- they won't be turned in. This is so you can learn to use the drawing tool properly. Feel free to experiment and draw new things on your own.
3. On your own, use the onion skin tool to draw 5 different objects. Show Miss Anderson when you are done. Once you have been checked by Miss Anderson, you can do what you choose.
Jan 30, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
* Use layers to create an animation with multiple objects
1. Bellwork: Do you know how to hide layers? Open your boat animation. When Miss Anderson comes by, hide each layer in turn.
2. Today, we'll finish your boat animation. Remember: name your boat layer "boat." Name your water layer "water." Create a third layer with a fish, shark, bird, or any other object you can move.
4. Animate the waves, the boat, and the other object. You should have at least 15 keyframes. Once you are done, export the movie file and turn it in.
5. If you have turned in one movie, create another animation.
Jan 27, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
* Use layers to create an animation with multiple objects
1. Bellwork: Create a a new Flash project. Draw a boat. It doesn't matter what kind. Have Miss Anderson check you off.
2. Today, we'll learn how to use multiple layers to animate multiple objects at the same time. Name your boat layer "boat." Make a new layer and call it "water." Draw and fill in some water and waves for the boat. Miss Anderson will show you how. Make a new layer and call it "fish." Draw a fish that can leap in and out of the water.
4. Animate the waves, the boat, and the fish. You should have at least 15 keyframes. Once you are done, export the movie file and turn it in.
5. If you have turned in a movie file of your boat, you can do what you choose.
Jan 26, 2012- Thursday
Our goals are to:
* Practice creating and exporting animations
* Create a dancing stick figure animation using the line and black arrow
tools
1. Bellwork: I'd like to check that you can do three basic things in Flash: add objects, change the frame rate and make new keyframes. Create a new Flash file. Add five total keyframes. Then, add a different color rectangle in each frame. Then, change the frame rate to 3 frames per second. Have Miss Anderson check your work. Once she's checked it, you can delete the animation.
2. Today, we'll make an animation of a dancing stick figure using the black arrow tool and the line tools. First, start a new animation and draw a stick figure in the first frame.
3. Miss Anderson will show you how to
---use the arrow tool to bend lines
---use the arrow tool to select and move objects
4. We'll use these tools to make the stick figure dance across at least 40 keyframes. When you are finished with an animation, export the movie file to your Flash folder and turn it in.
5. If you have turned in a movie file of your dancing stick figure, you can do what you choose.
Jan 25, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
* Practice turning things in
* Practice creating and exporting animations
1. Bellwork: We're going to practice turning things in. Copy this folder into your Computer Applications folder: shared/students/BAnderson/File types. Copy the whole folder, not just individual files. Show Miss Anderson that you have copied the folder into your Computer Applications folder.
2. Next, Turn in 10 of the 22 files to your turn in folder. Rename each of them to your first and last name.
3. After you have successfully turned in 10 practice files, open Macromedia Flash. We are going to create practice animations today. You'll need to turn in one simple animation that you have made. Miss Anderson will review how to
---open a new animation
---change the background color
---Use the drawing tools
---Add new keyframes
4. Remember, when you are finished with an animation, export the movie file to your Flash folder and turn it in.
5. We will work in Flash the whole time today. If you are finished with one animation, create another.
Jan 24, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
* Open and save a new Macromedia Flash project (a .fla file)
* Create a 20-keyframe animation
* Export the animation and turn it in
1. Bellwork: Log on to SIS and check your grades. Show Miss Anderson that you can view the scores for each class. To do this, just click on the name of the class, and you'll see the scores for that class's assignments.
2. Miss Anderson will then review with you the policies for late work, for blank grades, and the grading scales.
3. Then, create a Flash folder inside your computer applications folder. Open Macromedia Flash. Use the shape tools to draw a few objects. Miss Anderson will show you around the interface.
4. Create a new project. Save the file as "stacks" in your Flash folder (which should be inside your computer applications folder).
5. Follow along as Miss Anderson shows you how to create keyframes and add to your animation.
6. On your own, finish creating an animation that has
* 20 keyframes
* a new object in each keyframe
7. Export the movie file to your Flash folder and turn it in.
Jan 23, 2012- Monday
Our goals are to:
* Add transitions, music, and timings to the All About Me PowerPoint
* Export PowerPoint as slideshow
* Turn in PowerPoint
1. Bellwork: Show Miss Anderson the automatic transitions on each slide. Click through the slides while looking at the "Animations tab" so Miss Anderson can see that each slide will transition after 10 seconds.
2. The All About Me PowerPoint is due today.
3. When you are done, export the slideshow. Go to the File menu, then Save As-- PowerPoint Show.
4. Once you have exported the slideshow, complete the self check paper in the blue folders around the room. Turn in the self check paper, and then turn in your slideshow to the shared drive turn in folder.
5. PowerPoint finished? Add one more thing to your PowerPoint: a hyperlink on the last slide that leads back to www.compapp.org. Save it as a slideshow and turn it in again.
6. All done with the PowerPoint AND hyperlink? You can choose what you do. If you have read all the way through these instructions, tell Miss Anderson the code word "porcupine" when she checks your bellwork, and you'll get 1 point extra credit added to your PowerPoint grade. Remember- the code word is secret- you have to read the directions.
How it will be graded:
Follow the “rule of seven” _____2
Each slide transitions smoothly to the next ___/5
A 1-minute music clip plays across all slides ___/2
Turn in the exported slideshow, not the original project ____/1
Jan 20, 2012- Friday
Our goals are to:
* Add transitions, music, and timings to the All About Me PowerPoint
1. Bellwork: Go to the Shared/Students/BAnderson/1 Minute Music folder (you should open your My Computer window and navigate from there). Look through and listen to the clips and pick one you like. Copy or drag the file to your Computer Applications folder. Show Miss Anderson the music file in your folder.
2. Today we'll add the finishing touches to the All About Me PowerPoint. You can download the assignment sheet here. You should have seven slides created with the backgrounds, clip art, and information you want.
3. Miss Anderson will show you how to create slide transitions, which you will need to add between each slide. Here's a video tutorial to help you. Each slide should transition after 10 seconds.
4. Next, we'll have the one minute clip of music play over the whole slideshow. Miss Anderson will show you how, and here's a video tutorial if you need to review later.
5. When you are done, export the slideshow. Go to the File menu, then Save As-- PowerPoint Show.
6. Once you have exported the slideshow, complete the self check paper in the blue folders around the room. Turn in the self check paper, and then turn in your slideshow to the shared drive turn in folder.
How it will be graded:
Follow the “rule of seven” _____2
Each slide transitions smoothly to the next ___/5
A 1-minute music clip plays across all slides ___/2
Turn in the exported slideshow, not the original project ____/1
Jan 19, 2012- Thursday
7th period- you will get your report cards from last term today. Don't let me forget!
Our goals are to:
* Create an All-about-me PowerPoint and save it to your computer applications
folder
1. Bellwork: Start a new PowerPoint project and create seven slides. Show Miss Anderson that you have seven slides.
2. Today we'll start our first graded project: a PowerPoint presentation all about you. You can download the assignment sheet here. The presentation will only be seven slides long, but in those seven slides you should tell us about some of your favorite things. The beginning steps are:
---Create seven slides
---On the first slide, add a title
---On the last slide, add an ending message
---Add information about yourself and things you like on the other five slides
3. Miss Anderson will show you how to create slide transitions, add clip art, and add animations after everyone has begun their slideshow.
4. Make sure to save this file to your student folder. You aren't finished
with it today- tomorrow you will add music and timing. Then I will show
you how to export a slideshow.
Jan 18, 2012- Wednesday
Our goals are to:
--- Complete the class procedures handout
--- Turn in disclosure documents
--- Learn your names
1. Bellwork: Turn in your signed blue papers to the bins in the corner of the room under the "Gallery of Awesome" sign. Today, we are going to review classroom procedures and rules. Download the handout here, and save it to your Computer Applications folder. Show Miss Anderson the document in your folder to pass off your bellwork.
2. Once Miss Anderson has checked everyone's bellwork, we are going to review class procedures. Instead of using a paper handout, you are going to type your answers in the MS Word document you just downloaded.
3. Follow along with the presentation and fill in the blanks. When finished, Miss Anderson will show you how to turn it in by saving it to the shared drive.
Jan 17, 2012- Tuesday
Our goals are to:
--- Log on to student email accounts successfully, and make sure everyone
knows their passwords
--- Send disclosure documents home to be signed
--- Learn your names
1. Log on to your student email and complete the survey Miss Anderson has sent you. All done? Head to the school's website and look around. While you do this, Miss Anderson will walk around and help people log in.
2. Next, we'll review the disclosure document. The signature page to this document should be signed and returned. That's your homework for tonight.
3. Quiz Miss Anderson on your name! Quiz her in the hallways! Quiz her as you come in to class!
